The Eastern Hills Mall is about to take the wraps off the recently completed makeover at its J. C. Penney store.

The store will host a grand-reopening Friday complete with freebies, prize drawings and percentage-off sales.

J. C. Penney Corp. had planned to overhaul 65 stores per year around the country through 2011. But after the recession slammed the retail world, the company dropped that number to fewer than 10 stores for the entirety of 2009, including the Eastern Hills Mall location.

Extensive renovations at the 130,000-square-foot store began in March. The final product boasts wider aisles, as well as new fine jewelry, footwear and salon departments. A new customer service center will also debut. Fitting rooms and restrooms were also updated, as were the store’s flooring, lighting and signage.
